Sega System 1 / 2

The Sega System 1 is an arcade platform officially debuted by Sega in 1983, based on earlier 1982 prototype hardware. It is a Z80-based platform and the first in the decade-long “System” series of arcade boards.

The Sega System 2 is an arcade platform introduced by Sega in 1985. It is a successor to the Sega System 1, though largely an upgrade, utilizing the same Zilog Z80 CPU, sound chips, and Sega graphics chipset. The major upgrades of the System 2 are the addition of a ROM board, faster RAM, and a larger 512×512 background scrolling plane.
